Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What type of motorcycle can I use on this ride?

This ride is made up of a mix of paved and gravel roads. An average rider could ride these routes with a typical road bike with road tires if done with caution (if you don’t mind getting it a little dusty). Remember that these do have to be street legal motorcycles.

Q. How much of this ride is paved roadway and how much is gravel road?

About 18 miles of the morning ride on Barclay Mountain is paved road. These stretches of paved roadway are secondary roads that are some of the most winding and scenic roads around.

Q. What about the Covid situation?

Canton has not been affected too bad by Covid, but with that said, we will still be social distancing and ask that you comply with any of the local establishments’ requirements regarding face masks.

Q. Do I have to pre-register for this event?

No. We will only be signing up the morning of the ride.

Q. How much is the entry fee?

$20. Don’t think of this as an entry fee, but rather a donation to our local fire department. And for the $20 you get a hot dog and hamburger with a drink, route sheets, sweep vehicle for breakdowns, and the company of a lot of like-minded riders.

Q. How can I pay the sign- up fee?

Cash or check made out to CANTON LIONS CLUB.

Q. Where will the ride start and end, and where is sign-up?

The ride sign-up and start and finish will be from the municipal parking lot located behind Baldwins Hardware Store off of Lycoming Street. Go to the red light (the only red light in town) and look for the signs.

Q. What is the sign-up fee if I only want to do just one of the rides?

$20.00 for one route or two. No discounts for just one, sorry. Remember this is a donation more so than a sign-up fee.

Q. Can I bring a passenger?

You sure can. The registration fee is per bike!  We will have them sign a release form and they are good to go.

Q. What if it rains or snows?

We can only hope that it does! Given the lack of rain this summer it will keep some of the dust down. THIS IS A WEATHERPROOF EVENT.

Q. Can I use a GPS for the route?

We are currently working on an upload for GPS. We would highly recommend that you use our route sheets and maps instead, as a lot of our “rural signage” road names do not match with various GPS road names. And hey – this is an “Adventure Ride” after all!

Q. Is this a “guided” ride?

Yes it is. We will have 4 ride leaders that will go off from faster to slower rider pace, that you will be able to ride with if you want.

Q. Is there a hotel in town or close by?

The only hotel is located in the Historic Park Hotel and Brewing Company, located just north of the red light (remember there is only one red light). They have 6 rooms available and is a good place to stay. Call ahead 570-673-8777.

Q. Is camping available?

Yes! We have camping at the Fireman’s Field (located about 3/8 mile south of the red light… the only red light) This will be dry camping only. Look for the signs.

Q. Where is the lunch stop?

The ride has changed since we first advertised it as we will be doing the Barclay Mountain ride in the morning, with the lunch stop at the scenic Sunfish Pond County park. The stop is right on the route in the pavilion next to the Lake. Look for the Lions Club banner and a small group of Lions Club workers trying to look like they are busy.
